Kuca Kammena. Stone House in Novigrad, Croatia.

Kuća Kamena or simply “Stone House”. It is located in the heart of the small town of Novigrad in Dalmatia and it’s the home of artist and designer Boris Kajmak and, if you like, yours for a little while. The house has its origins in the sixteenth century, but exists in its current form since the mid-nineteenth century. The last renovation took place in the 1980s, but the house was damaged during the war and occupation in the 1990s.

The house was renovated in 2011, according to cultural heritage regulations imposed on the old city center of Novigrad, and redesigned using locally reclaimed materials. Great care was taken to add contemporary flair to the house, without competing with the old. Small imperfections in the original structure were not erased, but rather accented, retaining the special character of this particular house. It is located in the very center of town, just above a market and bakery.

The terrace (15 m²) separates the bathroom/toilet from the main house and lower terrace (9 m²), and is shaded by a mature grape-vine. From the terrace, double doors open onto the ground floor of the house. This level offers an open space of 25m² which unifies living and kitchen areas. For colder days there is a wood-burning stove integrated into the kitchen.  Opposite the kitchen, at the far end of this room, is a couch that converts into a double bed (155cm x 200cm).

A cold water shower is mounted to the outside wall of the bathroom for hot summer days. _MG_0444 _MG_0522From the base of the old wooden staircase, pull down the suspended weights. A hatch will open, giving access to the upper floor. From the top of the stairs you will enter what we call the “Writer’s Room”. A wood-burning stove is the visual centrepiece of this room. A partition wall separates the “Writer’s Room” from the master bedroom. The furniture in this room originates from the late nineteenth century. _MG_0729 _MG_0776  _MG_0782 _MG_0856kucakamena _MG_0666-Edit  P1040654The lower terrace is located only a couple of steps down from the main terrace. A few steps further lead on to the garden and laundry/utility room. The secluded garden provides plenty of shade on hot sunny days. Arched gates at the end of the garden lead back onto the village passageway. _MG_0452-Edit _MG_0446-Edit _MG_0620 _MG_0772 (1) _MG_0774 αρχείο λήψης novigrad 1915  Novigrad, Croatia

Grecian Chic. Silk scarves, pocket squares & ribbons.

Elena Zournatzi, born in 1981 in Athens, is the creator of the ultra chic, silk scarves Grecian Chic. With studies in Graphic Design at Kingston University in London, and a Postgraduate 2D Cartoon Animation course at Central Saint Martins in London, she decided in 2011 to combine the elegance of the silk with the strong culture of her  birth country Greece.

Two series of silk foulards, pocket squares and ribbons; the “classical” and the “grecian life”. The “classical” has as its source the history, the traditions and even the mythology. Inspiration derives from the details of ancient marble sculptures to the Minoan pottery, from traditional folklore embroidery to the gold jewellery of Alexander the Great. The “grecian life” represent the present daily life, in a comical way. The chic lady travels among the islands and the villages in the mountains, to pose next to cult male figures!

All of the motifs, to the finest detail, are hand pencil drawings on paper, before colour brings them to life! The final drawings are digitally printed on 100% pure silk in England and each scarf has a fine seam finish. Elena Zournatzi has also been designing motives for Museums in Greece and Cyprus and collaborates with french Haute Couture Fashion House. Her motives are printed in porcelain, textiles and various paper products.

Interior Design.Isola Trattoria and Crudo Bar in Modrian Soho.

Isola Trattoria & Crudo Bar is a coastal Italian restaurant inspired by the Amalfi Coast, Italian Riviera and Sicily and it is located inside the Mondrian Hotel in Soho. Modeled after the famously lush landscape of the Bobboli Gardens in Florence and the private Italian estates that line the country’s coast, Isola is an escape within Mondrian SoHo’s 5,000 square foot greenhouse space, which features a hanging glass sculpture by artist Beth Lipman. Like an indoor garden with patio seating in the morning which transforms into a luxurious chic restaurant with glorious chandeliers into the night.

Borgo Delle Tovaglie. The Italian way of home design.

Borgo Delle Tovaglie is a handmade italian design for tablecloths, towels, curtains, pillows and lamps.  A complete line of top-of-the-range household. Just discovered in Milan, in via Plinio 13,  the brand was born in 1996 as a tablecloth manufacturing firm in the ancient Via delle Tovaglie in Bologna and in 2005, guided by eclectic Valentina Muggia and her husband Giuliano Di Paolo, it  became a reference point in the panorama of furnishing and decoration. Borgo delle Tovaglie opened its 500 square meters flagship store in november 25th 2011 in Via Farini, Bologna. Surrounded by the big names of luxury, the company placed its “iron heart” in one of the oldest medieval streets of the city center.

One of the most outstanding pieces of the line is the Eureka ! the Readme lamps collection.  Where creativity meets craftsmanship, each piece is a one-off with old books, gauze covering, prints and a linen abatjour assembled together. In addition, someone can find the most romantic table lamps or apliques in the Follow the Ballerinas collection, Frida and Bob.
